The Education Working Group focuses on philanthropy’s contribution to accessible and quality education, from early childhood to tertiary education. Chaired by the Aga Khan Foundation and the Jacobs Foundation, the group aims to:

  • Explore cutting-edge evidence, best practices, and potential new partnerships on teacher training and motivation, early childhood education, and alternative school governance models in developing countries.
  • Connect foundations with governments to discuss education policy priorities, and opportunities to collaborate.
  • Offer a space for foundations to learn from peers’ best practices (e.g. education programming, due diligence, M&E, and policy outreach strategies).

The next meeting of the Education working group will take place on 27th of May 2020.
Meetings are closed-door and by invitation only. For more information, please contact Laura Abadia

2019 netFWD Education policy note: Quality Education for All: Lessons and Future Priorities

This policy note analyses foundations’ support for education in developing countries. It builds on the results of the OECD Survey on Private Philanthropy for Development, and OECD DAC statistics unpacking data on giving from 2013-15 and 2017. It also gathers a selection of case studies to further explore how foundations are investing to expand access to schooling, better measure learning outcomes, empower teachers and school leaders to deliver quality education, and learn from their own work on the ground.
