 G20 GDP growth slows to 0.6% in the fourth quarter of 2019‌‌

12/03/2020 - Prior to the widespread outbreak of the coronavirus in the first quarter of 2020, growth of real gross domestic product (GDP) in the G20 area had already started to slow, falling to 0.6% in the fourth quarter of 2019, compared with 0.8% in the previous quarter, according to provisional estimates.

GDP contracted sharply in Japan (by minus 1.8%, following October’s increase in consumption tax). It also contracted in South Africa (by minus 0.4%), Italy (by minus 0.3%) and, (by minus 0.1%), in France and Mexico
